Do I have to join JASNA?
- Yes. JASNA regulations require membership in the national organization - The Jane Austen Society
of North America - in order to join a regional group.
What
are the benefits of joining JASNA?
- JASNA members
receive the Society's tri-annual newsletter, JASNA News, the annual journal, Persuasions, an invitation
to attend the Annual General Meeting, participation in tours to England, access to the wealth of Jane Austen resources at

Can I attend JASNA Central Valley California meetings
as a guest?
- Yes, but for only two meetings. After
that membership will be required for further participation. Most events/meetings are for members only.
Can I attend the open-to-the-public events without membership?
- Yes, but at a higher cost than members.
Why is there a membership fee?
- Membership
dues are minimal but necessary for basic operational costs such as renting facilities for meetings, distributing the newsletter,
providing snacks, maintaining the website, marketing products, etc. None of the Executive Committee members are paid;
all assistance is voluntary. Additionally, it is believed that formally and monetarily committing to the group will foster
cohesive participation.
Who can join?
- Anyone interested in the life and works of Jane Austen are welcome
to join. Whether you are a long time Austen enthusiast or have recently discovered her works, you are invited. Remember, you
don't have to be an Austen or Regency expert to have fun!
What
is the cost for membership?
- JASNA membership costs
vary based on residence and other factors. See the JASNA website for details. JASNA Central Valley California Region membership
cost is $20 per year, our fiscal year beginning on September 1, both for new members and renewal.
What if I want to join but it is now December or June?
- Good question! New memberships requested after September 1 until December 31 are $20
with renewal due the following September.
- New
memberships requested between January 1 and June 30 are $10 with renewal due by September 1 of that same year.
- New memberships requested after July 1 are $20 but renewal will not be until September
1 the following year.
