10:00 am - 11:00 am - "Jane Austen's Children",
a lecture from famed Austen scholar Juliet McMaster.
Juliet McMaster is well known
to JASNA audiences, having been often a plenary and a breakout speaker at AGMs. She is the author of books on Thackeray, Trollope,
Dickens, the eighteenth-century novel, and of Jane Austen on Love and Jane Austen the Novelist. She is
also the editor of Jane Austen's Achievement, and co-editor with Bruce Stovel of Jane Austen's Business
and with Edward Copeland of The Cambridge Companion to Jane Austen. She and her co-editor have recently revised the
Companion, which is due to emerge in a new edition from Cambridge University Press in 2010. Her current work is a
biography of the prominent Victorian painter James Clarke Hook, her great-grandfather. She is the founder of the Juvenilia
Press, and the illustrator of many of its volumes, as well as of Austen's The Beautifull Cassandra. Juliet is
University Professor Emeritus at the University of Alberta.
Juliet will delight Central Valley Jane Austen fans by delivering a lecture that fits in with our Mother's Day
theme entitled "Jane Austen's Children". Although Jane Austen herself never had any children of her own, she
certainly wrote about plenty of them in her novels. Juliet will discuss these children, including the cheerful tumbling Morlands,
the brattish Middletons and nasty little Harry Dashwood, the greedy young Lucas', the rough-and-tumble Prices, and more.
Admission for the lecture is free, but seating is limited to only 50 people, so be sure to get your requests in early! Please
email all seating requests to Carrie Flores at: carrie@jasnacenvalcal.com.
This event has been funded in part by a grant
from the Jane Austen Society of North America.

3:00 pm - 4:00 pm - "Dressing A Lady" - A Regency
Costume Lecture Presented By Jennifer Rosbrugh From CloakandCorset.com.
Always feeling like she was born in the wrong century, Jennifer has been sewing
for over 23 years mostly making her own clothes and home furnishings. For the past ten years she has found a passion in historical
clothing, studying the design and construction process. Her favorite eras to study are the Regency and Victorian, but she
finds anything from mid-18th century up to early 20th century fascinating. Jennifer’s earliest costume dates from Medieval
and the latest time period is 1939. Jennifer has been a member of the Costumer’s Guild West (CGW) since 2000, and has
been a teacher at their annual Costume College™ since 2004. She has taught classes on Nineteenth Century Corded Petticoats,
Overview of 1840s-50s Women’s Clothing, Overview of Regency Outerwear, Faux Fur Muffs, and the Modern Sewing class.
We are very lucky
to have Jennifer give a lecture at our festival and instruct us in the ways of assembling the perfect ladies Regency outfit.
In her lecture, "Dressing A Lady", she will use a model to show us exactly what a proper Regency era lady would
have worn from undergarments to outerwear. If you've ever wanted to learn more about Regency clothing, then be sure to
attend this lecture! To learn more about Jennifer and see examples of historical clothing that she's made, visit her website
